Administration and Supervision
As an administrator, I have learned that getting more people involved in the decision making process will help the program as a whole. The use of participatory management and shared decision making is a concept that I have implemented more by developing ways of including staff and parents in policy making and other areas of improvement. One way that may work is to include parents in a committee that reviews policies and programs prior to putting them into action. The tab labeled "Parent Survey" is one example of the rationale and procedure for determining what families need from their child care, and offering families a variety of options for involvement in the program, including decision-making. I have chosen to focus on parent workshops for my final project. The topics for the workshops have been obtained by surveying the parents and then analyzing the findings to determine which workshops are most beneficial to our families and which ones have the most interest to obtain maximum participation.
I have begun to understand the relationship of leadership, sound business practices and child growth and development principles to program quality for children and families. This concept is demonstrated under the tab labeled "Program Administration Scale -Action Plan". I have used the PAS to determine what areas the program needs improvement for this year. I will continue to use this as a means to evaluate the program on a yearly basis. This year our program showed a need in family support and involvement. That was a determining factor in the topic for my final project.
