Marketing and External Environment
The Marketing and External Environment class gave me the knowledge of the external factors and relationships that affect children’s programs. I was able to assess the needs of the parents and the community surrounding our program. The stakeholder analysis was an integral part in helping us assess the relationships affecting the program. This knowledge allows me to decide what programming to supply for our parent workshops and what would be most beneficial to them.
The class also exposed me to the knowledge of basic concepts of marketing and the ability to apply them to program strategies. This was very challenging for me because I have never had to do much marketing for our program. My final assignment in the class was to develop a marketing plan for Camp Thoreau. Using the marketing plan to improve the way that parents are contacted and communicated with to get them more involved in the program has become a main focus for our program now that our enrollment has begun to steadily drop over the past 5 years. The parent workshops that we will be putting on will be available to school parents, as well as, camp parents hopefully help raise interest in the program and encourage more parent involvement.
