Survey Analysis
The assessment that I conducted was to add a new service to Camp Thoreau. We are lacking in our program in parent resources so I conducted a survey to see the interest level in parenting workshops. We asked for suggestions as well as asking parent’s interest levels in some specific topics. In this short time period, I was only able to collect the information from about 40% of our parents. Of those parents, 83% had a high interest in participating in the workshops. The topic that they were most interested in was Bullying Prevention with 83%. The next important subject was Homework Help with 78%. Nutrition and Parenting Tips followed with 67% having high interest. Finding Community Resources had the least amount of interest with 61% of the parents choosing that topic. I had not put any detailed description of each topic and that could have had some effect on the results of the survey as far as the Community Resources was concerned. I am going to complete this process with as many parents as possible by the next month so we can put this program in place for the following school year. I was surprised at the reactions of parents. Even a few of them asked when these workshops would be starting. A few parents gave topic suggestions of Self-Respect and Effective Communication. This process will also be a good way to use this as a support group amongst the parents. The first workshop offered in September will most likely be Ways to Help with Homework because it is a perfect time to get everyone off to a great start for the beginning of the school year. Then we would move into the other topics which had the most interest such as, Bullying Prevention. We do have new parents for the school year so a follow-up survey may benefit us with more input. We will try to accommodate as many parents as possible with the timing of these workshops. Most parents could participate between 5:00pm and 6:00pm or after 6:00pm so we may compromise and try to do it from 5:30pm-6:30pm. We will try to do one workshop monthly or bi-monthly because of other school functions. This assessment was the perfect way to show that we want the parent’s input in our moving forward in trying to provide more services to our program that will benefit everyone.
