Family Centered Assessment Analysis
Staff/family relations: Staff empathizes with working family members by accommodating parents according to their work schedules so that they can drop off and pick up within our scheduled hours or visit and volunteer. There are not really unresolved conflicts or disagreements on values. Sometimes questions arise about why a parent wants something done differently or they have concerns staff will talk with parents and then it is resolved with a meeting or phone call.
Policy Review: We lack some clear policies in the areas of enrollment, separation, family orientation, parent involvement and family communication. This would be a clear area of improvement. We do have a policy that supports parents when it comes to ill children.
Family Input: Family input is usually obtained through surveys and regular conversation. Our program lacks follow through on regular communication. We lack a way of having meaningful input, such as, governance council.
Methods of delivering family centered care: Our program has a clear non-discrimination policy. We have many different ways for families to be involved in the program. We spend time listening to concerns and issues they would like addressed. Staff takes the time to communicate with parents and learn from them.
Out of the Box Services: We are one of the few programs in our district to be open Spring Break, Winter Break, all days off and all summer. We allow siblings to attend during break times even if they don’t attend our school. We offer photocopy and fax services. We could try to offer more services.
Referrals: We help with setting up the appointments with the school social worker and then she handles it from there. The family is involved from the start with every step of the process.
